Use Svg From Url. If encode SVG using encodeURIComponent it will work everywhere. The element takes nodes from within the SVG document and duplicates them somewhere else.

You can however manipulate them using JS which isnt a very clean solution plus you have to do other things like wait for the image to load and then manipulate it using JS.
Its easy to do with good old anchor tags. SVG has a element which essentially means. The effect is the same as if the nodes were deeply cloned into a non-exposed DOM then pasted where the use element is much like cloned template elements in HTML5.
